Why Am I Being Charged for These Medical Services?

Understand why certain medical services are not covered by provincial insurance and require direct payment through Docnote.

It's a common question — and a fair one. Most routine healthcare visits are covered by provincial health plans like OHIP, but not every medical task falls under that coverage.

Certain services are classified as uninsured services, meaning the provincial government does not reimburse your physician for completing them. Common examples include:

  • Sick notes for employers or schools
  • Prescription renewals requested outside of an appointment
  • Insurance and disability forms
  • Medical certificates for travel, employment, or legal purposes

Because these tasks require your physician's time, expertise, and administrative resources, the cost is passed directly to the patient. Docnote simply provides the secure platform through which these services are requested, paid for, and delivered.

💡 Good to know: Your primary care provider is required to inform you of the cost before providing any uninsured service. If you have questions about a specific fee, contact a Docnote support agent for assistance.
